The OK School Student Services Coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for all student support services within the school. Working collaboratively with school administration, teachers, educational assistants, families, community agencies, and external specialists, the Student Services Coordinator ensures that students receive appropriate academic, behavioural, social-emotional, and developmental supports to achieve success.
The Coordinator leads the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of student services programming, including alternative education, modified programming, specialized services, educational assistant deployment, and Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The position also plays a key role in implementing recommendations arising from school evaluations and supporting the school’s commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive, and student-centered education.
Key Responsibilities
Student Services Leadership
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for student services programming and initiatives.
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term student services plans aligned with school and NNCEA priorities.
- Collaborate with administration to identify student needs and implement effective supports and interventions.
- Support the development of a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment for all students.
Educational Assistant Supervision and Coordination
- Oversee the management, deployment, and daily allocation of Educational Assistants (EAs).
- Ensure EA supports are aligned with student needs, Individual Education Plans, and classroom programming.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to EAs.
- Coordinate professional learning opportunities for Educational Assistants.
Student Services Team Leadership
- Lead and coordinate the Student Services Team, including school-based and external service providers.
- Facilitate regular case management meetings and collaborative planning sessions.
- Ensure effective communication among teachers, support staff, families, and specialists.
- Monitor student progress and adjust supports as required.
Individual Education Planning
- Coordinate the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Support teachers and Educational Assistants in implementing accommodations, modifications, and intervention strategies.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and NNCEA student services requirements.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
Specialized Services Coordination
- Coordinate access to specialized services including:
- School Psychology
- Speech and Language Services
- Occupational Therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Behavioural Supports
- Social Work and Mental Health Services
- Jordan’s Principle Supports
- Organize assessments, referrals, consultations, and follow-up services.
- Ensure recommendations from specialists are incorporated into educational programming and student support plans.
Alternative Education and Modified Programming
- Oversee the development and operation of alternative education programming.
- Support modified classrooms and individualized student programming.
- Ensure programming is responsive to student strengths, needs, and educational goals.
- Monitor effectiveness and outcomes of alternative education initiatives.
School Improvement and Evaluation
- Support the implementation of recommendations from the most recent school evaluation and future evaluation processes.
- Assist in developing action plans related to student achievement, inclusion, intervention, and support services.
- Collect and analyze data to inform decision-making and program improvement.
- Contribute to school-wide planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Family and Community Engagement
- Build positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and community partners.
- Facilitate meetings with families regarding student programming and supports.
- Collaborate with community agencies and service providers to enhance student outcomes.
- Promote culturally responsive practices that honour the values, traditions, and strengths of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation.
