PowerSchool Data Breach

January 10, 2025

We are writing to make you aware of a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, a software vendor which provides our Student Information System (SIS).

On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool informed our team that they experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool SIS customer data. Unfortunately, they have confirmed that our schools along with several others across Canada were affected.

PowerSchool informed us that the taken data primarily includes parent and student contact information with data elements such as name and address information. For NNCEA students from 2023-Current the only relevant data on file with our Student Information System is:

Name

Date of Birth

Address

Contact

Treaty Number

Met Number (Manitoba Education Number)

Medical Information if applicable (IE: prone to seizures)

Please note, NNCEA does not use PowerSchool’s for Post Secondary students, so this population is not affected.

Protecting our students is something we take seriously. With PowerSchool’s help, more information and resources (including credit monitoring or identity protection services if applicable) will be provided to you as it becomes available. If you require more information, please phone 204-484-2095.

Thank you for your patience and understanding

NNCEA
